Well, it has been quite a while since I wrote anything. Let's just say last week was crazy. I have been thinking about how I need to review Netflix.
In the beginning I wasn't convinced. My husband's boss told him about it when it first came to Canada and so we checked it out... the selection shown did not impress. We either owned the shows already on dvd or would never have watched them in a million years. I heard movies would be added as time passed. We decided to wait on it.
A few months later I was visiting my brother and I saw that Netflix--which he had on his Wii--had some shows I wouldn't have minded seeing. So when a promo came up so that I got credits for my online game if I signed up for the months free trial I did.
And I was hooked.
First off, if you hate the fact that the only new releases are usually shows that bombed and most of the shows are a few years old or older, get over it. Netflix costs 8$. What do you expect? But for 8$ the selection is endless.
Yes there are a lot of movies I would never watch. But there are a lot of movies I still have on my list to watch.
Have kids? Netflix has a lot of children's tv shows and movies. And kid's like watching the same thing over and over so you don't need cable for that tv entertainment time.
Another thing to know is that only on your computer can you see all the shows available. On the consoles you have to do a search for a movie if you can't find it in the list. The lists only show 75 from each category. Also, if you look at Netflix but don't sign up it doesn't show all the movies. This was a point we missed. I know you smart people out there wouldn't have, but we did.
I have been able to watch the BBC shows I love as well as movies I missed seeing and don't really want to rent or buy before watching them first. And while we don't watch Netflix constantly, we have watched a fair bit and have never gone near our bandwidth limit.
In conclusion if you have been humming and hawing about it my recommendation is just sign up for the one month free trial and see if you likes it... but don't forget to cancel if you don't. You wouldn't want to be out eight bucks the month after your free trial. (after all eight bucks could buy you a Happy Meal at McDonald's)

X-Men: First Class
I love X-Men. I don't read a lot of stories but the X-men movies were some of the first Superhero shows to draw me in. So last night I went to it in theaters. I don't go to the movies a lot but it has seemed to be more frequent lately. Perhaps because it gives me a night out from my child or perhaps it is because there are actually movies playing I want to see before they hit dvd. Anyways, here is my review without the plot line once again. Why waste time on telling you what the show is about?
Loved it, well done, better quality that X-Men Origins: Wolverine. A lot more of a story to it than Thor. For someone like me who has only gone to the marvel website to read the biographies of the mutants it was fun to see how they came to be who they were in the other X-Men stories. And of course a cameo of Wolverine was brilliant (I believe i know females who would watch the show just to see him in his few seconds and well-placed line of "f*** you". I'm pretty sure that it was the only movie I have ever seen where the random "f" bomb has been dropped and you are not taken by surprise... but I digress.
As a female it was enjoyable to see young, handsome Charles and Eric. Seriously, I would have followed Eric to the dark side. You even see how justifiable his point is in becoming Magneto. While I knew he and Mystic would become "the bad guys", it still was sad.
I did not cry in the show, swoon, but not cry.
As I said the story line was well thought out in my opinion and the show didn't seemed to be bogged down in too many special effects and fight scenes as superhero movies often are. All in all, I liked it (or hadn't you noticed) and would recommend it as a good addition the the superhero movies. Also, Michael Fassbender is easy on the eyes and who can resist James McAvoy?
I'm pretty sure that if their are any males reading this review they are shaking their heads. But they have their own hot, scantly clad females to stare at. Let us have our good looking men.
