Once again reviewers need to educate themselves before going to a movie. At least know what the movie was based on. War Horse is based on a play that is based on a young adult's book. Though putting the movie onto screen meant it was war movie and therefore possibly disturbing for some children(though I think most children these days are quite used to violence) the story itself is of a horse's journey and therefore not "real". Everything happens storybook like. Sort of a Black Beauty in the sense that the horse is more like a human than, well, a horse. (he does not narrate his own story or talk though)
The setting is WW1 and that, though not as graphic as an adult war movie, is not made glamorous. There were some very sad parts as one should expect in a movie about a war.
Honestly, I am not sure why so many people compare this movie to different Spielberg movies. It is in a group of it's own as it is a not just a war movie and not just a horse movie. The acting was good, the film quality was good and the story kept you moving forward. I have heard some people call it boring but I did not find myself bored during it.
Even if you don't like horse movies you may enjoy this one. The star is a horse but there is a lot of story there that many people I think could enjoy. I would definitely watch it again.
